LMCP··5 min readLMCP exposes local file tools to your AI without uploading your folders to a separate storage service. It can work with ordinary folders, external drives and supported synchronized folders that are available on the PC.
If the selected AI client uses a cloud AI provider, that provider can receive and process the file content requested for the task under its own terms. LMCP still executes the file operation locally.
What the Windows file tools do
- List files and folders at a path.
- Search by name or content where supported.
- Read common text and document formats.
- Create files inside the location you specify.
Set it up
- Install LMCP for Windows.
- Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another supported MCP client.
- Ask it to list a specific test folder first.
- Approve only the write actions you expect.
