The delete_reminder tool lets your AI assistant permanently remove a reminder from Apple Reminders (Reminders.app) on your Mac. It deletes a single reminder by its ID, which the AI first finds with list_reminders, and it requires confirm=true so nothing is erased by accident. A typical prompt is simply: "Delete the reminder about renewing my passport." The AI looks up the reminder, shows you which one it found, and removes it once you confirm.

This runs through LMCP, a free, native macOS MCP server that connects AI assistants to your real Mac apps locally. Nothing is uploaded, and there are no API keys to manage. Download LMCP to get started with 150+ tools across Reminders, Calendar, Mail, Notes, Messages and more.

Which AI agents work?

LMCP works with every major AI client. Desktop apps configure automatically over a local stdio connection, while web-based AIs connect through the LMCP Cloud Relay connector.

  • Desktop (auto-configured, local stdio): Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Windsurf and Zed.
  • Web (via LMCP Cloud Relay connector): ChatGPT, Claude.ai (web), Grok and Perplexity.

Once LMCP is installed and your client is restarted, delete_reminder appears automatically alongside the rest of the toolset.

Automation

Deleting a reminder is rarely a standalone action — it chains naturally with other tools. The AI calls list_reminders to find the right item and grab its ID, then passes that ID to delete_reminder with confirm=true. You can ask for bulk cleanups like "Remove all completed reminders from my Groceries list," and the AI loops through the matches. It can also combine with Calendar or Mail tools: "If the dentist appointment is already on my calendar, delete the reminder to book it." The confirm gate keeps every deletion intentional.

Context

Because LMCP reads your real Reminders database, the AI works with your actual lists, due dates and notes — not a generic guess. When you say "delete the reminder about the car service," it matches against the exact wording in your Reminders.app, disambiguates if several look similar, and tells you which one it picked before acting. That live context is what makes natural-language requests reliable instead of risky.

Productivity

Cleaning up Reminders by hand means opening the app, scrolling lists, swiping each item and confirming. With LMCP you describe what you want in plain English and the AI does the lookup-and-delete in one step. Clearing out a dozen stale reminders that used to take a few minutes of tapping becomes a single sentence. Over a week of inbox-style reminder triage, that adds up — and you stay in your chat window instead of context-switching to another app.

Privacy & GDPR

Everything happens locally on your Mac. delete_reminder talks directly to Reminders.app through macOS; your reminders are never copied to a server, and LMCP stores nothing in the cloud. The AI only sees what you ask it to act on, in the moment you ask. This local-first design makes LMCP GDPR-compliant by architecture — there is no third-party data processor in the path, because your data never leaves the device.
