The gdrive_search_files tool lets your AI assistant search your synced Google Drive folder on your Mac, finding files by name recursively across every subfolder. Instead of opening Finder or the Drive app and scrolling through nested folders, you just describe what you are looking for in plain language. The tool returns up to 50 matches by default, ranked so the most relevant files surface first.

A concrete example. You type to your AI assistant: "Search my Google Drive for any file with 'Q3 budget' in the name." LMCP walks your synced Drive folder, matches file names recursively, and hands the AI a clean list of paths so it can open, summarize, or act on whatever you need next.

Which AI agents work?

LMCP exposes gdrive_search_files to every major AI client through the Model Context Protocol. Desktop clients auto-configure over a local stdio connection, while web AIs connect through the LMCP Cloud Relay connector.

Automation

Searching is rarely the end goal — it is the first link in a chain. Because LMCP offers 150+ tools, your AI can combine gdrive_search_files with everything else on your Mac. Find a contract by name, then read it, then draft an email with it attached. Locate a spreadsheet, then open it in Excel and pull the totals. Search for last quarter's deck, then create a calendar reminder to review it. The AI orchestrates these steps so a single sentence triggers a multi-tool workflow.

Context

This tool works against your real synced Google Drive folder on your Mac — the actual files you already have on disk, not a separate cloud copy or a stale index. When the AI searches, it sees exactly what you see in Finder. That means answers reflect your true file set, including documents you saved minutes ago, and the AI can reason about your work with full, current context instead of guessing.

Productivity

Hunting for a file across a deeply nested Drive folder can eat several minutes — recalling the exact folder, expanding trees, squinting at similar names. With gdrive_search_files the AI returns matches in seconds from a single natural-language request. Over a workweek of dozens of lookups, that compounds into real time saved, and it keeps you in your AI conversation instead of context-switching to a file browser.

Privacy & GDPR

Everything runs locally on your Mac. LMCP reads your synced Google Drive folder directly from disk — no file names, paths, or contents are ever sent to an LMCP server, and there is no cloud copy of your data. There are no API keys to manage and nothing is stored remotely. This local-first design makes LMCP GDPR-compliant by architecture. Your files stay yours.
