Search Your Notion from AI on Mac
Let Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants search your Notion pages and blocks for any phrase, right on your Mac. Local, private, no API keys. Free with LMCP.
The notion_search tool lets your AI assistant search across your cached Notion content — page titles and block text — for any phrase you ask about, case-insensitive. It returns the matching blocks along with the page they live on, so the AI can quote the exact passage and tell you where it came from. You just type a natural-language request like "Search my Notion for the phrase 'Q3 launch checklist' and show me the pages it appears on." and the assistant runs the search locally and reads back the hits.
No more digging through a sprawling Notion workspace by hand. Ask in plain English and your AI finds the block. Download LMCP to get started — it's a free, native macOS MCP server that exposes 150+ tools across your real Mac apps.
Which AI agents work?
notion_search works with every major AI client. Desktop apps configure automatically over a local stdio connection; web-based AIs connect through the LMCP Cloud Relay connector.
- Desktop (auto-configured via local stdio): Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Windsurf, and Zed.
- Web (via the LMCP Cloud Relay connector): ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Grok, and Perplexity.
Whichever assistant you prefer, the search runs on your Mac against your own cached Notion data.
Automation
notion_search is a read-only tool, which makes it a perfect first step in a longer chain. The AI can search your Notion for a project name, pull the matching blocks, then draft an email summarizing the status, create a calendar event from a deadline it found, or add a reminder. Because LMCP exposes 150+ tools, the assistant moves seamlessly from "find it in Notion" to "act on it in Mail, Calendar, Reminders or Messages" — all in one conversation, no copy-paste between apps.
Context
The AI works with your real Notion content, not a generic guess. When you ask about a decision, a spec, or a meeting note, notion_search surfaces the actual block text and the page it belongs to, so the answer is grounded in what you actually wrote. Combined with your Mac's Mail, Contacts and Calendar, the assistant has genuine context about your work — it knows your projects by name because it can read them.
Productivity
Searching Notion's UI means opening the app, typing into the search box, scanning results, and clicking through pages. With notion_search you ask once and the AI returns the matching blocks and pages instantly — often while you're mid-task in your editor or chat. A lookup that used to break your flow for a minute or two becomes a single sentence, and the AI can immediately use what it found to keep working.
Privacy & GDPR
Everything runs locally on your Mac. notion_search reads cached Notion content already on your machine — nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored in the cloud, and there are no API keys to hand over. Your notes never leave your device. This is privacy by architecture, not by policy. Read more about how LMCP is GDPR-compliant by architecture.
