The teams_send_message tool lets your AI assistant send a text message straight into a Microsoft Teams chat or channel from your Mac. Instead of switching to Teams, finding the right conversation, and typing it out, you just describe what you want in plain English and the AI does it. A typical prompt looks like: "Send a Teams message to the Engineering channel saying the deploy is finished and staging is back up." The AI resolves the conversation, drafts the text, and posts it through Teams running locally on your machine. Microsoft Teams must be open and signed in.

LMCP is a free, native macOS MCP server with 150+ tools. It connects AI assistants to the real apps you already use — no API keys, no Microsoft Graph setup, no cloud middleman. Download LMCP and the message is sent from your own logged-in Teams session.

Which AI agents work?

You can use teams_send_message from any MCP-capable AI client:

  • Desktop clients — Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Windsurf and Zed auto-configure through a local stdio connection. LMCP wires itself in automatically.
  • Web AIs — ChatGPT, Claude.ai (web), Grok and Perplexity connect through the LMCP Cloud Relay connector, which securely bridges the web assistant to the server running on your Mac.

Whichever client you prefer, the message is composed by the AI and delivered by your local Teams app.

Automation

Sending a message is rarely the whole job, and teams_send_message chains naturally with the other 150+ LMCP tools. The AI can read your latest emails, summarize them, and post the summary to a Teams channel. It can check your calendar and message a colleague that you're running late. It can pull a Teams chat history, draft a reply, and send it. Or it can watch for a reminder, then notify a group chat when a task is due. Because every tool runs in one local session, multi-step workflows happen in a single prompt with no copy-paste between apps.

Context

The AI isn't guessing — it works with your real Mac data. It sees your actual Teams conversations, your contacts, your calendar and your mail, so when you say "tell the design team" it knows which chat that maps to. That grounding means messages go to the right place with the right detail, instead of generic text you'd have to fix afterward. Everything the assistant references is the live state of your machine, not a stale or synthetic copy.

Productivity

Status updates, standup notes, "on my way" pings and deploy announcements add up to dozens of small Teams interruptions a day. Handing them to your AI removes the context-switch each one costs. A status update that takes a minute of app-hopping becomes a one-line prompt you fire off without leaving your editor or chat window. Over a week, that's a meaningful chunk of focus time reclaimed — and fewer messages forgotten because you were heads-down on something else.

Privacy & GDPR

Everything runs locally on your Mac. The message is sent by the Teams app you're already signed into, and LMCP never copies your conversations to an external server or stores them anywhere. There are no API keys to hand over and no third-party cloud holding your data. This local-first design makes LMCP GDPR-compliant by architecture — your communications stay under your control on your own hardware.
