The word_append tool lets an AI assistant add text to the end of an existing Word (.docx) document right on your Mac. Instead of opening the file, scrolling to the bottom, and typing, you just ask in plain language. For example, you might type: "Append a new section to ~/Documents/Q3-report.docx with three bullet points summarizing this week's sales numbers." The AI reads your request, opens the document, and writes the new content to the end — keeping your existing formatting and content intact.

Because LMCP runs natively on macOS, word_append works directly with the real .docx files on your disk. No uploads, no copy-pasting into a chat window, no re-downloading an edited file.

Which AI agents work?

word_append works with every major AI assistant LMCP supports:

  • Desktop clients (auto-configure via local stdio): Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Windsurf and Zed. These detect LMCP automatically once it's installed.
  • Web AIs (connect through the LMCP Cloud Relay connector): ChatGPT, Claude.ai (web), Grok and Perplexity. You link them once to the relay and they can reach your local tools securely.

Automation

word_append is most powerful when chained with LMCP's other 150+ tools. A single request can pull data from one app and land it in your document:

  • Read your unread email, summarize it, and append the digest to a running notes file.
  • Pull this week's calendar events and append a weekly recap to a project log.
  • Grab figures from an Excel sheet and append a written commentary paragraph to a report.
  • Create a fresh .docx with word_create, then append section after section as the AI generates them.

Context

The AI isn't working with generic placeholder text — it works with your real Mac data. It can reference the actual contents of the target document, your Contacts, your Mail, your Notes and your Calendar to write content that fits. That means the appended text matches your file's tone, references the right people, and includes real numbers instead of guesses.

Productivity

Appending to documents is the kind of small, repetitive task that quietly eats time. Updating a meeting log, adding a status section to a weekly report, or logging a decision into a spec usually means opening Word, finding the right spot, and typing it out. With word_append the AI does it in one prompt while you stay in your chat. Over a week of daily logs and recurring reports, that's minutes saved every time and a document that never falls behind.

Privacy & GDPR

Everything runs locally on your Mac. The document is read and written on your own disk — LMCP never uploads it to a server, and no copy is stored in the cloud. There are no API keys to manage and nothing is retained anywhere outside your machine. This local-first design makes LMCP GDPR-compliant by architecture: your data simply never leaves your control.
