The onedrive_write_file tool lets your AI assistant write text content directly into a file in your OneDrive folder on your Mac. Instead of copy-pasting from a chat window into a document, you just ask in plain language and the file appears in your synced OneDrive, ready to open on any device. A typical prompt looks like this: "Write a project status summary for Q2 and save it to my OneDrive as status-q2.md." The AI composes the content and LMCP writes it to disk locally, where OneDrive picks it up and syncs it.

Because LMCP talks to your real OneDrive folder through the Mac filesystem, the file is created exactly where you expect it — no uploads through a third-party server, no API tokens to manage. Download LMCP and your assistant can start saving documents in seconds.

Which AI agents work?

LMCP exposes onedrive_write_file to every major MCP-capable assistant. Desktop clients auto-configure through a local stdio connection; web assistants connect through the LMCP Cloud Relay connector.

  • Desktop (local stdio, auto-configured): Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Windsurf and Zed.
  • Web (via LMCP Cloud Relay): ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Grok and Perplexity.

The same tool, and the other 150+ tools in LMCP, are available across all of them.

Automation

Writing a file is rarely the whole job — it's a step in a chain. onedrive_write_file combines naturally with other LMCP tools. Ask your AI to read last week's emails, summarize them, and write the digest to OneDrive. Or pull your calendar events for the day, format an agenda, and save it as a file. You can have it list files in a OneDrive folder, read one, revise the text, and write the updated version back. Because all these tools run through the same assistant, a single prompt can fetch, transform and persist data without you touching Finder.

Context

The assistant isn't working with generic templates — it works with your real Mac data. It can reference your actual Mail messages, Calendar, Notes, Contacts and Reminders when composing the file. That means a saved meeting recap actually contains the people from your contacts and the times from your calendar, and a saved report reflects the real numbers you mentioned in chat. The written file lands in your genuine OneDrive folder, synced to the same account you use everywhere else.

Productivity

Saving an AI's output normally means selecting text, opening an app, creating a file, naming it, and dropping it in the right folder. With onedrive_write_file that entire dance collapses into one sentence. Drafting and filing meeting notes, weekly status updates, or research summaries goes from a few minutes of clicking to a few seconds of asking. Over a week of documents that's real time back, and the file is already syncing across your devices before you've switched windows.

Privacy & GDPR

Everything runs locally on your Mac. LMCP is a native macOS MCP server: the file is written to your own disk and synced by your own OneDrive client. There's no LMCP cloud, no API keys, and nothing about your content is stored on our servers. Your documents never pass through a third party. This is privacy by architecture, not by policy — read more about how LMCP is GDPR-compliant by architecture.
