Reply to Email with AI on Mac
Let Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor reply to your emails on Mac by message ID. Plain text or HTML, sent from your real Mail account. Local, private, no API keys.
The reply_email tool lets your AI assistant reply to any email directly from your Mac's Mail app. You give it the message ID (or just point at an email the AI already found), and it composes and sends a reply in your name — as plain text or formatted HTML. Nothing leaves your machine except the email itself, sent through your own account.
A natural prompt looks like this: "Reply to the latest email from Sarah and tell her the deck is attached and I'll join the 3pm call." The AI reads the thread, drafts a reply in your voice, and sends it from your real Mail account — no copy-pasting into a browser.
Which AI agents work?
LMCP exposes reply_email to every major AI client through the Model Context Protocol:
- Desktop clients (auto-configured via local stdio): Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Windsurf and Zed detect LMCP automatically and can call the tool right away.
- Web AIs (via the LMCP Cloud Relay connector): ChatGPT, Claude.ai (web), Grok and Perplexity connect securely to your Mac through the relay, so even browser-based assistants can reply to your mail.
Whichever you use, the reply is sent locally by your Mac — the AI never touches your mail server credentials.
Automation
reply_email is most powerful chained with other LMCP tools. A typical flow: list_emails or search_email surfaces an unread message, read_email pulls the full thread for context, then reply_email sends the response — all in one prompt. Pair it with create_event to confirm a meeting in the same breath ("reply yes and put it on my calendar"), or with create_reminder to follow up later. With 150+ tools available, your AI can triage an entire inbox: read, reply, schedule and archive without you opening Mail.
Context
Because LMCP runs on your actual Mac, the AI works with your real data: your real inbox, your real contacts, your real signature and tone from past threads. It isn't guessing at a generic template — it can reference the message you're actually replying to, the sender's name, and details from earlier in the conversation. That's the difference between a robotic auto-reply and a response that sounds like you wrote it.
Productivity
Inbox replies are death by a thousand cuts — each one is small, but they add up to hours a week. With reply_email, clearing a batch of routine responses (confirmations, intros, quick acknowledgements) becomes a single conversation with your AI. Tell it "reply to all the meeting confirmations saying I'll be there," and it handles the lot. You stay in control: review drafts before they go, or let it send the obvious ones. Most users reclaim the 20–30 minutes a day they spent context-switching into Mail.
Privacy & GDPR
Everything happens on your Mac. LMCP is a free, native macOS MCP server — there are no API keys to paste, no cloud mailbox sync, and no copy of your emails stored on any server. Your messages are read and sent locally through the Mail app you already trust. For web AIs, only the specific request and reply pass through the relay; your inbox is never uploaded. This makes LMCP GDPR-compliant by architecture — your data simply never leaves your control.
