How to Connect ChatGPT to Your Email on Mac
Let ChatGPT read, search, send and reply to email through Mail.app on your Mac. Works with Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and any IMAP account — via a free MCP connector. No API keys, your email never leaves your machine.
Can ChatGPT Read My Email?
With LMCP, yes — ChatGPT can read, search, send and reply to your email directly through Mail.app on your Mac. Ask in plain English: “What did Sarah say about the budget?” or “Reply to the latest email from the landlord and say I’ll pay Friday.” ChatGPT calls the right tool on your Mac and works with your real inbox.
No Gmail API keys, no OAuth into your mail provider. LMCP talks to Mail.app locally, so every account you already have set up there is available — and your email never leaves your machine.
What You Will Need
- macOS 12+ with Mail.app configured (at least one account)
- ChatGPT on the web (Plus/Pro/Business/Enterprise/Edu) — custom connectors require a paid plan and Developer mode
- LMCP installed (free)
Connect ChatGPT to Your Mac
Connect ChatGPT to your Mac
chatgpt.com → Settings → AppsAdding a custom connector needs Developer mode, available on ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu (not the free plan). ChatGPT flags it high-risk because a custom connector can act on your data.
- 1
Install LMCP on your Mac
Download LMCP from local-mcp.com and run the installer — it installs Local MCP to Applications and auto-configures your AI clients in ~30 seconds.
- 2
Turn on the Cloud Relay
Open the LMCP menu bar app → Settings → Connect and toggle Cloud Data Forwarding ON (off by default for privacy). Click Copy next to Token — you paste it once on the authorize page.
- 3
Turn on Developer mode (one-time)
On chatgpt.com, open Settings → Apps, then turn on Developer mode — it now lives on its own page under Security & sign-in (linked from the bottom of Apps). It’s flagged high-risk because it lets you add custom connectors.
- 4
Create the LMCP connector
Back in Settings → Apps, add a new connector — Name:
LMCP, MCP Server URL:https://www.local-mcp.com/mcp, Authentication: OAuth (leave client ID/secret empty — we auto-register). Confirm you trust it and Create. - 5
Approve with your token
ChatGPT opens an Authorize page on
www.local-mcp.com. Paste the Token you copied from the LMCP menu bar and click Authorize. The page closes and the connector shows Connected with the full tool catalog. - 6
Enable it in a chat
Start a new conversation and enable the LMCP connector from the composer’s tools menu (+). Then ask: “List my email accounts” or “What meetings do I have today?”
Steps verified 2026-07-14. 100% local · you confirm anything it sends · free.

Try It Out
Start a new chat, enable LMCP via + → More → LMCP, then ask:
- “Summarize my unread emails and flag the urgent ones.”
- “Find emails from John about the contract.” — searches sender, subject and content across all mailboxes.
- “Reply to Sarah’s latest email saying I’ll be there at 3pm.” — drafts and sends from your account.
- “Move all newsletters from this week to the Archive folder.”
For sending and moving, ChatGPT shows a preview and asks you to confirm before anything happens.
Which Email Providers Work?
Any account configured in Mail.app — if you can see it in Mail.app, ChatGPT can use it:
- Gmail — personal and Google Workspace
- Outlook.com / Hotmail and Microsoft Exchange / Office 365
- iCloud Mail
- Any IMAP provider — Fastmail, Yahoo, custom domains
Privacy: Email Stays on Your Mac
- LMCP runs locally and talks to Mail.app through native macOS APIs.
- With Cloud Data Forwarding on, requests route through an encrypted relay to your Mac and execute there — no intermediate mail servers, no API keys.
- LMCP does not store, cache or log email content. GDPR/CCPA compliant by architecture.
Troubleshooting
ChatGPT does not show any emails
Confirm Mail.app has the account configured, and that LMCP has Automation access to Mail in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation. Also make sure Cloud Data Forwarding is ON.
The connector shows “No app actions available yet”
Normal — that panel doesn’t list tools. Enable LMCP in a chat via + → More → LMCP and it works.
