Can ChatGPT Read My Email?

What You Will Need

macOS 12+ with Mail.app configured (at least one account)

Connect ChatGPT to LMCP (about 5 minutes)

Install LMCP, open the menu bar app → Settings → Connect, enter your email, click Connect, toggle Cloud Data Forwarding ON, and copy your Token.
On chatgpt.com: Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode, then Create app with URL https://www.local-mcp.com/mcp and Authentication OAuth.
Click Connect → paste your token on the Authorize ChatGPT page → Authorize.

Try It Out

Start a new chat, enable LMCP via + → More → LMCP, then ask:

“Summarize my unread emails and flag the urgent ones.”
“Find emails from John about the contract.” — searches sender, subject and content across all mailboxes.
“Reply to Sarah’s latest email saying I’ll be there at 3pm.” — drafts and sends from your account.

Any account configured in Mail.app — if you can see it in Mail.app, ChatGPT can use it:

Privacy: Email Stays on Your Mac

LMCP runs locally and talks to Mail.app through native macOS APIs.
With Cloud Data Forwarding on, requests route through an encrypted relay to your Mac and execute there — no intermediate mail servers, no API keys.
LMCP does not store, cache or log email content. GDPR/CCPA compliant by architecture.

Troubleshooting

ChatGPT does not show any emails

Confirm Mail.app has the account configured, and that LMCP has Automation access to Mail in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Automation. Also make sure Cloud Data Forwarding is ON.

The connector shows “No app actions available yet”

Normal — that panel doesn’t list tools. Enable LMCP in a chat via + → More → LMCP and it works.
