Connect Telegram to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor on Mac and Windows
To let your AI use Telegram, install LMCP and link your own Telegram account. LMCP is a local MCP server for Mac and Windows. It talks to Telegram's official API with your account, so your AI can list your chats, read and search messages, and send a message once you approve it. It needs LMCP 3.0.420 or later.
What your AI can do with Telegram
- List chats — people, groups and channels, newest first, with unread counts and the last message (
telegram_list_chats). - Read messages — the recent messages of one chat, paging back in time (
telegram_read_messages). - Search — by text across all your chats or inside one chat; the search runs on Telegram's servers, so it covers your full history (
telegram_search_messages). - Send a message — one message per call. The first call returns a preview and sends nothing; the message goes out only after you confirm (
telegram_send_message). - Manage accounts — link, list, choose a default and disconnect accounts (
telegram_connect,telegram_list_accounts,set_default_telegram_account,telegram_disconnect).
How to connect
- Install LMCP and restart your AI client.
- Ask your AI to connect Telegram. It runs
telegram_connectand LMCP shows a QR code. - On your phone, open Telegram → Settings → Devices → Link Desktop Device and scan the code.
- If your account has a two-step verification password, or you prefer to sign in with your phone number, use the LMCP window on Mac or the LMCP tray icon → Telegram on this PC on Windows.
Your Telegram session is stored in the macOS Keychain or in Windows Credential Manager. Disconnecting signs that session out on Telegram's side; your chats stay in Telegram.
More than one account
You can link several Telegram accounts and choose one per request. Ask your AI to link another account (telegram_connect with add_account: true), to list them (telegram_list_accounts) and to pick the default (set_default_telegram_account). Without an account, the Telegram tools use the default one.
Example prompts
- “What did Marco send me on Telegram today?”
- “Search my Telegram for the invoice number from last week.”
- “Draft a reply to the design group and show me the preview before sending.”
Limitations
- Your own account. LMCP signs in as you through Telegram's official API; it does not use a bot.
- One message per send. There is no bulk sending, and a send shows a preview first.
- A connected account is required. Without one, the Telegram tools explain how to connect instead of returning an empty list.
