Zed MCP Setup on Mac

Give Zed's Assistant direct access to your Mac apps — Mail, Calendar, Contacts, iMessage, Teams, Slack and 233 tools through MCP context servers. LMCP configures Zed automatically when you install it.

What this lets you do

Zed supports MCP context servers in its Assistant, so it can act on your real apps through LMCP — locally, with no API keys or OAuth:

  • “Summarize my unread emails”
  • “What’s on my calendar this afternoon?”
  • “What did the engineering channel say in Teams today?”

Setup

  1. Download LMCP and run the installer — it detects Zed and adds LMCP as a context server automatically.
  2. In Zed, open the Assistant panel; the LMCP tools are available as an MCP context server.
  3. Ask the Assistant about your Mail, Calendar or Teams. macOS prompts for each permission the first time it’s needed.

Privacy

Zed talks to LMCP over a local socket on your Mac. Your data is read on-device and never uploaded; anything the Assistant wants to send is preview-and-confirm.
