What this lets you do
Zed supports MCP context servers in its Assistant, so it can act on your real apps through LMCP — locally, with no API keys or OAuth:
- “Summarize my unread emails”
- “What’s on my calendar this afternoon?”
- “What did the engineering channel say in Teams today?”
Setup
- Download LMCP and run the installer — it detects Zed and adds LMCP as a context server automatically.
- In Zed, open the Assistant panel; the LMCP tools are available as an MCP context server.
- Ask the Assistant about your Mail, Calendar or Teams. macOS prompts for each permission the first time it’s needed.
Privacy
LMCP executes local tools on your device. Cloud AI providers and connected services can receive requested data; their terms apply.
