To connect Claude to Proton Mail, install LMCP and give it the Bridge password of your Proton Mail address: Claude can then list, search, read and send your mail. LMCP is a local MCP server for Mac and Windows. It works through Proton Mail Bridge, the app Proton provides for using its mail outside the browser, so you do not configure IMAP or SMTP by hand.
What You Need
- Proton Mail Bridge, installed, signed in and running on this computer. Bridge requires a Proton plan that includes Bridge.
- LMCP on the same computer (below).
proton_connect tells you whether Bridge answers and which addresses are connected, so if something is missing, ask Claude “is my Proton Mail connected?”.
What Claude Can Do with Proton Mail
- List the newest messages of a folder, Inbox by default (
proton_list_emails) - Search a folder, or All Mail, by text and dates (
proton_search_emails) - Read a message — body as plain text and the names of its attachments (
proton_read_email) - Send a plain-text message from a connected address — you see a preview first, and it sends only when you confirm (
proton_send_email)
Nothing is marked as read. LMCP executes local tools on your device. Cloud AI providers can receive the messages you ask about; their terms apply.
How to Install and Connect
Download LMCP for your computer:
- Mac — open
LMCP-Installer.dmgand double-click LMCP Installer inside it - Windows — run
LMCP-Setup.exe; no admin rights needed
Then open LMCP's own window (LMCP's icon → My apps → Connect, in Proton Mail's row; with no row, Add apps…) and paste the username and Bridge password that Bridge shows for your address. LMCP connects to Bridge on Bridge's default ports. The Proton password is never asked, and the Bridge password never goes through the AI. Quit Claude Desktop completely and open it again, so it picks up the new tools.
Example Prompts
- “What came into my Proton inbox today? Summarize it”
- “Search All Mail in Proton for the lease agreement from March”
- “Read the last message from my accountant and list the documents she needs”
- “Email Ana from my Proton address that Friday works” — you see the preview first
Claude on the Web and ChatGPT
The Proton Mail tools also answer web AI apps that you connect to LMCP, such as Claude.ai and ChatGPT: connect ChatGPT and other web AI apps. Bridge keeps running on your computer; the AI only gets the messages you ask about.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Proton Mail Bridge?
Yes. LMCP reaches Proton Mail through Proton Mail Bridge, installed, signed in and running on this computer. Bridge requires a Proton plan that includes Bridge.
Does Claude get my Proton password?
No. Your Proton account password is never asked. LMCP uses the username and the Bridge password that Bridge shows you, and you paste them into LMCP’s own window, never into the chat.
Do I need to set up IMAP or SMTP by hand?
No. You do not type server names or ports into a mail client or a config file: you copy the Bridge username and password once into LMCP, and Bridge does the rest.
Are my messages marked as read?
No. Listing, searching and reading a message leave it as it was.
Can I use more than one Proton address?
Yes. Connect each one with its Bridge password; the tools take the address you want to use.
