Connect ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Grok or Perplexity to your Mac or PC
Connecting takes two things: the URL below — the same for everyone, with no credential inside — and one approval on your computer. LMCP has to be running with web AI access on: that is where the approval window opens when the AI connects.
LMCP has to be running for this to work: open its tray icon and make sure web AI access is on.
LMCP runs the tools on your computer. Cloud AI providers and connected services can receive requested data; their terms apply.

Steps
- A desktop browser at chatgpt.com — the connector can't be created from the mobile or desktop apps. On workspace plans an admin must enable connectors first
- Go to chatgpt.com/plugins (Plugins in the sidebar), click “Add” at the top right and choose the option to add a custom MCP server — not “Create plugin”
- Name it “LMCP”. ChatGPT doesn't take the same name twice: if you already added LMCP from another computer, use “LMCP” plus this computer's name, e.g. “LMCP Office”. Paste the URL below as the Server URL. Authentication stays on “OAuth” — that's already the default. Switching it to “None” gets you a connector that lists the tools but can't run them
https://www.local-mcp.com/mcp - Tick “I understand and want to continue” and click the button that creates it. That only registers it — you are NOT connected yet
- Click the button that connects it (ChatGPT first shows what it shares with the app) and approve in the dialog that opens on your Mac. If no dialog shows up, or it says LMCP isn't running, the approval simply expired — it lasts 5 minutes — so try again; nothing needs reinstalling
- Open a new chat and enable LMCP from the “＋” menu — the tools show up there

LMCP is one MCP server, and each AI client has its own word and install path for it. Install the LMCP app first: its tools run on your computer.
LMCP in ChatGPT: add it from Plugins
As of 2026, ChatGPT adds custom MCP apps from Plugins. LMCP connects there as a remote connector, through the Cloud Relay:
chatgpt.com → Plugins → Add → custom MCP server
LMCP in Claude.ai and Claude Desktop: a connector
In Claude’s chat apps LMCP is a connector, and Claude Desktop can also install it as a desktop extension.

If it doesn't connect
Check that LMCP is running on your computer and that web AI access is on. If the AI still lists no tools, remove the connector and add it again to force a fresh discovery.
