Turn Emails and Messages Into a To-Do List with AI

Half your to-dos are buried in email threads and chats. One prompt extracts every commitment you made and every request waiting on you, and creates real tasks — in Apple Reminders, Todoist, OmniFocus or Microsoft To Do. Free, local.

An AI assistant can turn your email and chat messages into a real to-do list: install LMCP (free) and Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client can read Mail, Microsoft Teams and WhatsApp on your Mac, extract every commitment you made and every request waiting on you, and create the tasks directly in Apple Reminders, Todoist, OmniFocus or Microsoft To Do — with due dates. It runs locally; nothing is uploaded.

The tasks you never wrote down

“I’ll send it Thursday” in an email, “can you review this?” in Teams, a client asking for a quote on WhatsApp — the tasks that slip are the ones that never made it out of a conversation. The AI reads the actual threads, so it catches the commitment in your own words, links it to the sender, and puts a date on it.

What you need

  • macOS 12+ with Mail.app, plus whichever task app you use — Apple Reminders works out of the box; Todoist, OmniFocus and Microsoft To Do are supported too
  • An AI assistant — Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client
  • LMCP installed — free, download, auto-configures your clients

The extraction prompt

Prompt — paste into your AI
Go through my email from the last three days plus my Teams and WhatsApp messages. Extract every commitment I made and every request someone is waiting on from me. Show me the list with a suggested due date for each, then create them in Reminders once I confirm.

Variations that pull their weight:

Prompt — paste into your AI
Every weekday at 6pm: what did I promise today that isn’t in my task list yet?
Prompt — paste into your AI
Cross-check: which of my open reminders were already resolved in email or Teams? Mark those complete.

It works both directions

Because LMCP connects the AI to your reminders and email at the same time, the loop closes: conversations become tasks, and completed conversations complete tasks. Ask for a weekly review — what got done, what’s overdue, what to carry over — and the answer comes from your real apps, not from a copy you maintain by hand.
