Introduction
LMCP lets your AI assistant use your Mac's real apps. Manage email, calendar, messages, files and any work app through natural conversation — 100% locally.
What is LMCP?
LMCP is a native macOS app that bridges AI assistants to your Mac’s applications: Mail, Calendar, Contacts, iMessage, Notes, Reminders, Microsoft Teams, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, Outlook, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Google Drive, Office documents, any website and more — 233 tools in one server. Your AI reads and acts through natural conversation; anything it sends shows a preview and needs your confirmation.
How does it work? LMCP uses an open standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol) to communicate with AI tools, so it works with any AI app that supports MCP — no vendor lock-in. Unlike cloud connectors, the tools talk to macOS frameworks directly (EventKit, JXA, local caches), which is why there are no API keys, no OAuth and no rate limits.
System requirements
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| macOS version | macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later |
| Processor | Apple Silicon (M1–M4) or Intel |
| Storage | ~60 MB available space |
| Network | Internet for download & updates (tools run offline; the optional Cloud Relay needs a connection) |
Supported AI clients
LMCP works with any MCP-compatible client. Two paths:
- Desktop apps (auto-configured on install): Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed.
- Web AIs (via the opt-in encrypted Cloud Relay): ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Grok, Perplexity — from any device, with your data always coming from your Mac.
- Any other MCP client (manual): add a stdio server with the command
npx local-mcp(Raycast, Warp, LM Studio…).
Quick start
- Download LMCP and run the installer — it lands in your menu bar and the onboarding wizard configures your desktop AI clients automatically.
- Grant the macOS permissions you want to use (see Permissions) — each is requested when first needed.
- Restart your AI client once and ask: “Summarize my unread emails.”
Common questions
Does LMCP require an internet connection? Only for download and updates. The tools run locally; your AI client may need internet for the model itself.
Is my data secure? Yes — everything is processed on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded or stored in any cloud; the optional relay only transits encrypted bytes and never persists them. See the privacy policy.
Can I limit what LMCP can access? Yes. Grant only the macOS permissions you want (each feature asks separately), and revoke any of them in System Settings at any time.
What does it cost? LMCP is free — no daily limits, no paid tier.
